2020 was a year marked by the Covid-19 pandemic. This virus spread across the planet causing a global economic crisis. We proposed a journey through the collections of La Caixa and MACBA from the oldest pieces to the present day, jumping from one global economic crisis to the next and then mixing the content up through mobile structures that could confront convergent reflections from disparate contexts: 1929 - Crash of '29 1987 - Black Monday 2008 - Subprime 2020 - Covid-19 We studied the production of art around the catalyst of each of these crises, establishing connections, common points, conclusions and lessons learned from each of these periods.
Scattered around the interior space are floating self-illuminated showcases containing selected works in apparent disorder. Upon entering the room, the sensation is as if some kind of CRACK had occurred, as if some star or rather the actual financial system had exploded inside. Each display case contains works from the same period, divided up into 1929, 1987, 2008 and 2020. The metallic structures that attach them to the rails installed on the ceiling follow the lines explained in the diagrams and the showcases travel along the rails stopping at the specified positions which allows the juxtaposition of the curated pieces and its context.
